Shakespeare 1709-1790: How Britain's Sculptors invented a National Hero

18 April - 7 June 2009

The greatest 18th century sculptors - Rysbrack, Scheemakers, Cheere and Roubilliac - competed to cast the definitive portrait of Shakespeare. Exhibited together for the first time, this exhibition culminates in Roubilliac's statue commissioned by the actor David Garrick for his temple to Shakespeare in Hampton.
