Supported and sheltered housing

Supported and sheltered housing is provided by a selection of housing providers ranging from large mainstream housing associations to small voluntary organisations.  The Council no longer provides Supported and Sheltered Housing but administers the Supporting People Programme, which helps to meet some of the costs of housing related support.

Supported housing

In Richmond upon Thames this comprises housing in small clusters of up to twelve units to support various client groups such as people with learning disabilities, teenage mothers and resettled rough sleepers.

Sheltered housing

This is housing specially built for Older People in a cluster of self-contained flats.  Residents in sheltered housing enjoy the benefits of living within a safe and secure environment surrounded by familiar faces.  People taking up sheltered housing can either buy or rent the flat they will live in.

There is a wide selection of sheltered housing units available in the borough, some comprising only 6 flats and others as many as 42 flats.

Our information booklet on Housing for Older People(pdf, 753KB) provides comprehensive information about sheltered housing in the borough.

If you wish to be considered for sheltered or older people’s housing you should contact the Housing Department on 020 8891 7872 or 020 8831 6444.
