Housing development

The Housing Service works in partnership with Registered Social Landlords (RSLs), Housing Developers, the Housing Corporation as well as the local planning authority, amongst others, to develop new affordable housing within Richmond upon Thames.

It co-ordinates the development activity of housing providers to ensure that properties built are in line with identified local needs.

New affordable housing development in the borough is undertaken by housing associations and other developers in partnership with the Council; The Housing Department’s Strategy and Development section facilitate, enable and monitor this work.

Since 2000, 821 new affordable homes have been built in Richmond upon Thames. These homes were delivered through a variety of developments such as Kew Riverside, Mill Farm, Harvey Road, Bishops Grove and the Stoop.

We are expecting to build approximately 440 new units by 2009. These will be located throughout Richmond on a mixture of small and large scale sites such as Rodney Road, Vincam Close, Strand Drive and Becketts Wharf.

Regular liaison with housing associations occurs through the Housing Association Forum, which meets four times a year.
