Emergency temporary housing

If we have reason to believe that you are Eligible, may be Homeless and in Priority Need (please see ‘Who is eligible for temporary housing’) then we have a duty to provide you with accommodation until we have concluded our enquiries. Should we then accept a continuing duty towards you and your household, we may offer alternative suitable accommodation.

We use a variety of schemes to accommodate people:

Bed & Breakfast accommodation

This is emergency accommodation. It may involve the sharing of facilities such as toilets, bathrooms and kitchens with other residents. The owners or their managers run this accommodation.

We have very little accommodation of this type within the borough and it is likely that we will place you outside the London Borough of Richmond. You would be responsible for the weekly rent in this accommodation.

Hostel accommodation

We have two hostels in the Borough, which have a mixture of self-contained rooms with shared bathroom and toilet facilities.

There are Wardens on site for your care, and the properties are furnished. You would be responsible for the weekly rent.

Short-term let accommodation

This is a house, flat or maisonette that the London Borough of Richmond leases from private or registered social landlords. Again, you may be placed outside borough.

The accommodation is unfurnished and you would be responsible for the weekly rent and all utility bills.
