Older People's Day 2010
Borough's biggest ever older people's day celebration
More than 350 older people tried their hands at Wii sports, Tai Chi and Nordic walking, among a host of activities at Richmond Council’s annual Older People’s Day celebration on Tuesday 5 October 2010.
The event was held at the Stoop in Twickenham, to promote the financial, health and care support available to local people.
Also among the attractions were workshops providing pension advice, computer training, carer advice and yoga. There were also 50 stalls, offering information from local organisations such as the Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Age Concern and other local care services. Attendees were also provided a free lunch.
Cllr Nicola Urquhart, Cabinet Member for Adult Services on Richmond Council said:
“We are absolutely delighted that so many of the borough’s older residents came to the event. Those that I spoke to said they really enjoyed the day.

“This is the biggest one-off event we hold to inform people about the range of advice and information on offer in the borough. These are services that are available all year round, so I hope people have picked up some ideas, or received advice, that are of really help and interest.“
