Support for teenagers and parents
Adolescent Resource Team
The Adolescent Resource Team (ART) is a multi-agency service that works with young people aged 11-17:
- Who are at risk of becoming 'looked after' by the local authority;
- Whose foster placements seem likely to break down;
- Who are at risk of becoming involved in criminal or anti-social behaviour, or
- Who are at risk of school exclusion.
The Adolescent Resource Team respond to young people and families in crisis, offering assessment, targeted intervention and support. This could include mediation, advocacy, mentoring or help in accessing resources, together with family and parenting work. The work takes place individually with young people and with their parents/carers. Young people are normally referred to the Adolescent Resource Team by social workers.
The service provided by the team is intended to deal with immediate risk, so the intervention is unlikely to last more than three months. At the end of this time, if we think longer-term work is needed, then we usually refer the young person to the Family Support Team.
