Support if you adopt a Richmond child

All families that adopt a child from Richmond are entitled to an assessment of their adoption support needs. As well as looking at the child’s well-being, this will also look at any help that the adoptive parents and relatives might need to make sure the placement is a success. The adoption support worker will work closely with the family to ensure that they have access to services that can help them.

Adopt support plan

Children placed for adoption in Richmond have an adoption support plan that looks at all aspects of their welfare, including health needs, educational issues, emotional and behavioural development, identity issues and family relationships. This plan will continue to be updated throughout the adoption process. When it has been agreed that adoption is in the child’s best interests their social worker will start to look for a suitable adoptive family and work with their foster carer to make sure they understand what is happening and are prepared for adoption.
