The adoption support services we offer

We recognise that adoption support can be crucial to the success of adoptive placements and are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of adoption support services to adoptive families. Below is a list of the services we currently offer:

Adoption Support Assessments

If you feel that your family needs some extra help, you are entitled to an assessment of your adoption support needs at any time until your child is 18.

Drop-in mornings

Relaxed and informal drop-in support group for adoptive families that runs every six weeks. A chance for local adoptive families to meet each other in a  comfortable and child-friendly environment.

Buddy Support Scheme

This scheme is run in association with adoption support charity Adoption UK and links new adoptive parents with experienced adopters who can offer information and support in the early stages of a placement. It also enables families who are experiencing a difficult time to receive the support of a Buddy.

Adoption Support Evenings

Organised with our partners in the South West London Adoption Consortium, these evenings present talks by adoption experts on a wide range of topics.

Previous evenings have looked at Life Story Books for Adopted Children, Communicating with Children through Play, Therapeutic Storytelling, Adopted Children and Education, Caring for Parents and Parenting Adopted Teenagers.

Adopted Children’s Groups

Quarterly social groups that give adopted children under the age of 10 the chance to meet up with each other and have fun together. We are currently in the process of setting up another group for adopted young people over age of 10.

Behaviour Clinics

One to one support for parents who would like help with behaviour management issues, offered in partnership with the local Primary Care Trust.

Parenting courses

Specialist adoptive parenting courses run by clinical psychologists which aim to help adoptive parents understand their child’s emotional development and equip them with practical parenting skills.

Adoption Newsletter

Quarterly newsletter sent to all adoptive families in the Borough who are on our adoption support database. Updates on adoption news, events and articles on adoption-related topics.

Intercountry adoption support sessions

Intercountry adopters are welcome to attend all the other adoption support events we organise but we have also set up a series of specialist sessions on intercountry adoption issues with the Intercountry Adoption Centre (IAC).

Family Day

Annual Family Fun Day with entertainment and activities for all the family.
