The Sit Stop Project

Royal Society of the Arts Richmond Coffeehouse Challenge: The Sit Stop Project

The Sit Stop project

The project aims to enhance the market share for retailers in the borough that provide a resting place – a chair – on their premises for busy shoppers. To meet the needs of Richmond’s affluent and ageing population, all businesses, offices, shops, public buildings and places of interest will be encouraged to put up a Sit Stop plaque with their own chair or provide a Sit Stop chair on the premises.

It is hoped to encourage trade from older people, parents, pregnant women and disabled people by creating a more welcoming environment. Retailers who consistently place customer care as a high priority will allow people to ask for a place to sit as a matter of course rather than as a special or embarrassing request.

The project is supported by The Royal Society of the Arts (RSA) and Richmond AID.
