Finding a care home

All registered care homes in the UK are registered and inspected by the Commission for Social Care Inspection. To search for a registered care home by area visit their Directory of Care Services.

Whatever home you choose, you have the right to:

  • A written contract with the home
  • A plan which says how the home will support you
  • Make choices, and be supported in maintaining your independence
  • A named key worker/nurse
  • A safe and comfortable home
  • Privacy and personal belongings
  • Be supported in maintaining contact with family, friends and professionals
  • Support to maintain your health
  • An independent advocate to help you be heard

You can find lists of local providers, their CQC ratings and contact details here(pdf, 96KB).

Choosing a care home

If we agree that you need to move to a residential or nursing care home you will be offered a choice of suitable care homes which have places available. However, because there are not a large number of care homes in Richmond upon Thames your choice will be limited.

At this stage you will also need to complete a financial assessment - more details about this are found on our Charges for Services web pages.

If you are eligible for Continuing Care, then visit the Richmond and Twickenham Primary Care Trust website for further information
