Food poisoning and infectious diseases
The Commercial Environmental Health Team investigates:
- Complaints of alleged food poisoning
- All proven cases of food-borne illness referred to us by local hospitals and GPs in conjunction with the South West London Health Protection Unit
We also:
- Contact patients with a notifiable disease to discuss where they might have contracted it
- Arrange for stool specimens to be collected and analysed
- Inspect food premises where a food poisoning outbreak may have occurred
- Check and test suspect food and food preparation procedures
A member of the Commercial Environmental Health team is on call 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week to respond to food incidents notified by the Food Standards Agency and Infectious disease outbreaks identified by the Consultant in Communicable Disease at the SW London Health Protection Unit.
What if I think I have food poisoning?
If you think you are suffering from food poisoning, you must always see your GP. He or she should arrange for a stool sample to be taken. The result of this will help us with our investigation.
You should also contact us and we will investigate the matter if it is linked to a business selling food.
