In January 2007 Richmond Council set up the Sustainability Unit to provide a coherent and consistent response to the challenge of climate change.

The Sustainability Unit is a team dedicated to carbon management and promoting sustainable development in the Council and across the borough.

The role of the Sustainability Unit is to:

  • Manage energy consumption in council buildings.
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the borough’s climate change strategy (mitigation and adaptation).
  • Encourage action on climate change through working with, and providing advice and support to, residents, schools, community groups and businesses.
  • Promote affordable warmth to all residents.

Go Green

We have set up a Go Green Portal to provide practical information to help you go green and discover what Richmond Council is doing to promote sustainable development in the borough.

Go Green home page

The portal brings together advice and support for residents, schools and businesses on:

  • Energy and climate change
  • Food and shopping
  • Transport
  • Waste and recycling
  • Water
  • Wildlife and conservation.
