Composting
You can help to reduce, reuse and recycle, creating your own nutrient rich compost by using your kitchen and garden waste. You may be interested in creating a wormery. These steps can help to maintain a clean and green environment.
What you can use to make compost
Fruit and vegetable peelings, scrunched up cardboard, teabag and eggshells, soft garden waste such as pruning, grass cuttings, leaves, twigs, hedge trimmings, garden prunings, weeds, plants, flowers.

What we will do for you
- We work in partnership with a supplier of compost bins (WRAP) and have secured reduced rates for residents of the borough, please call 0845 077 0757. They will let you know which bins are available, the cost, take payment and arrange delivery.
- We also have a £5 model available for purchase when you visit our Reuse and Recycling Centre at Townmead Road.
- We will make our compost available for collection from our Reuse and Recycling centre at £2.50 for a 40 litre bag.
- We will send information and leaflets within seven days of request.
- We will ensure that if you contact us we respond to you within our Council’s customer service standards.
What we would ask of you
- Please try to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as possible.
- Please do not put your garden waste in rubbish bags as they will not be collected by the domestic refuse service, use our green waste recycling scheme.
- Please contact us if you would like us to dispose of a bulky collection or fridge/freezer or join our green waste collection scheme.
