What happens there?

Townmead Road in Kew offers facilities for recycling a wide variety of materials - see What to recycle at Townmead Road for details.

There may be some recyclable materials that you haven't thought of before in addition to the usual.

You can buy compost bins, wormeries, bagged compost and compostable bags (for garden £1 each and food/kitchen waste £1.75 pack of 20).

When is it open?

Open to the public from:

  • April to October 8am to 6pm
  • November to March 8am to 5pm

Sundays and public holidays throughout the year 9am to 4pm

The Centre is closed on Christmas Day 25 December, Boxing Day 26 December and New Years Day.

Is there a fee for recycling or disposing of my waste at Townmead Road?

If you are a resident of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, there is no fee involved in recycling or disposing of your own domestic and household waste at Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre. Please have ID as proof of residency with you such as drivers license, as spot checks may be made.

What about vans?

If you are resident driving a van to dispose of your household waste, you need to show one proof of residency, plus one proof of identity through any photo identity or warrant card issued by:

  • A company or
  • A recognised institution (London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Transport for London are accepted)

and

  • A Council Tax bill/statement or recent utility bill (no older than 3 months)
  • If you are driving a hire van, a hire agreement will need to be shown.

If you hire a man with a van and you accompany them to the site the charges for trade waste will apply, as following.

What waste is chargeable?

  • Any waste that is from a business or was related to a business
  • Waste not from your own residential home
  • Any waste you are delivering on behalf of any other person
  • All builders waste that you have not produced
  • Any waste in a van from outside the London Borough of Richmond.

Trade waste recycling

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames is committed to reducing waste going to landfill sites and therefore accepts trade waste recycling at Townmead Road Re-use and Recycling Centre, for a lesser fee than general disposal.
