Bulky waste – special collections from residential properties
We provide a collection service from residential properties for bulky items or other household waste, which is not suitable to be collected as part of the weekly household refuse collection.
Furniture that is in good reusable condition may be collected by the furniture scheme.
We collect items which are:
- In a box
- Bag
- Bundle
- Or large items (for example a sofa or wardrobe).
We do not collect the following items as bulky waste:
- Green garden waste is a separate collection service.
- Soil, plasterboard/gypsum, can be disposed of in separate containers at Townmead Rd Reuse and Recycling Centre.
- Clinical waste is a separate collection service.
- Fridges or freezers are collected separately from general bulky waste.
What we will do for you
- We will collect up to five items for £30* (VAT free); each additional item is £3.10*. (See below for discounted rates).
- We aim to collect the items within 10 working days of receiving your completed form and payment.
Discounted rates
- Over 60 years discount to £15*
- Low income (in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit or Pension Credits Guaranteed Credits) discount to £0*
- Discounts apply for up to four collections per household per year. Additional collections will be charged at full price.
- A collection includes up to five items, additional items will be charged at full price (£3.10* per item).
If you qualify for a discount you may be required to provide evidence of your eligibility and your application must be made through the call centre 08456 122 660.
What we would ask of you
- Tell us if you are disposing of clothing, shoes or textiles as these may be separated for reuse.
- Leave your items for collection in your front garden, do not put your items on a public pathway or road.
- For items you wish us to collect at full price use our online application form.
- If you think you qualify for a discount apply by phoning our call centre 08456 122 660.
- Ensure that items are stacked safely so as not to cause injury to others.
- If you wish to cancel a collection 24 hours notification must be given, otherwise there will be no refund of fees.
Our Service Standards
- We will ensure that our web pages are up to date with current information and you can apply on line.
- Our contractor Veolia will do the collections.
- We will let you know between what day and times we will call to remove the items.
- We will ensure that if you contact us we will respond to you within our Council’s customer service standards.
