Bulky items, fridges and freezers

For residential properties only. We do not collect from businesses.

This service is for the collection of household waste under 25kg and/or items such as like fridges, cookers, sofas, beds and other furniture. All items must be left at the front of your property as close to the road as possible, in an easily accessible and visible place. Collections cannot be made from inside properties, residents must approach friends, relatives, charities or voluntary organisations if support is required to place items outside the property

It is not for the disposal of excess waste which can be taken to Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre.

How to arrange your bulky waste collection

You must specify all items to be collected when you make your collection request. We will not collect any items left out for collection that are not listed on the collection crew's worksheet. Collection times are from 7am till 3pm.

Full price £44 for up to 5 items (each additional item £6).
Over 60s

£19 for up to 5 items (each additional item £5.30).

Up to 5 collections per year.

Additional collections will be charged at full price

Low income

Free for up to 5 items per collection.

Up to 2 collections a year.

We offer limited free collections for residents in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support or Pension Credit Guaranteed Credit or Employment and Support Allowance.

Fridge/Freezer collection prices
Full price £41 per item.
Over 60s

£18 per item.

Up to 2 collections per year.

Additional collections will be charged at full price

Low income

Free for 1 item per collection.

We offer limited free collections for residents in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support or Pension Credit Guaranteed Credit or Employment and Support Allowance.

What we do not collect

Only household waste is collected.

We cannot collect building waste like rubble, asbestos, plasterboard, kitchen or bathroom units and storage heaters.

Please note that the items listed below will not be collected:

  • Green garden waste has a separate collection service.
  • Clinical waste has a separate collection service.
  • Concrete
  • Oil
  • Engines
  • Tyres
  • Contaminated waste
  • Pianos
  • Sheets of glass over 90cm long
  • Scaffolding poles, unless they are cut down into 90cm lengths
  • Garden rollers
  • Paint

When will my items be picked up?

Place your item outside your property by 7am on the day that you are expecting your collection.

All items must be left at the front of your property, as close to the road as possible and in an easily accessible and visible place.

Your items should be picked up on the day, after you normal waste collection day

Please note however that there are no weekend collections for general bulky waste. We aim to collect within 10 working days of receiving your application and payment.

Do not leave items on the footpath or on a public highway. The collection crew must be able to access the property and remove items safely.

Cancellation and refund requests

If you need to cancel a booked collection and require a refund, your request needs to be received 2 working days before the day of collection. For example, collections booked for Friday will need to be cancelled by end of Tuesday.

Furniture re-use project

For certain items of furniture, we recommend that you use the free furniture re-use service.This allows you to donate unwanted items of furniture to families on low incomes.
