Household recycling

Did you know that over half (60%) of the waste in an average household rubbish bin can be recycled?

Each year in Richmond upon Thames households produce over 80,000 tonnes of waste; this is enough to more than fill Twickenham Rugby Stadium.

Currently 41% of the borough's household waste is being recycled, and half of our residents recycle on a regular basis.

Many materials can be recycled directly from the home in the following ways:

Batteries

The EU batteries directive places responsibility for collection and safe disposal of portable batteries with the producers (visit directgov for more information). This means that most stores that sell batteries will have a recycling container. Search for your nearest store using Battery Back.

There is a battery recycling container at Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre.

Brita water filter cartridges

These can be recycled by returning via Freepost or by taking to one of the participating stores. Find out more on the Brita website
