Household recycling
Did you know that over half (60%) of the waste in an average household rubbish bin can be recycled?
Each year in Richmond upon Thames households produce over 80,000 tonnes of waste; this is enough to more than fill the Twickenham Rugby Stadium. Currently 36% of the borough's household waste is being recycled, and half of Richmond residents recycle on a regular basis.
A wide range of materials can be easily recycled directly from the home, by using the:
- Black Box and Blue Box recycling
- Food waste recycling scheme and order compostable liners
- Garden waste collection service
- A compost bin
Batteries
The EU batteries directive places responsibility for collection and safe disposal of portable batteries with the producers. This means that most stores that sell batteries will have some sort of recycling scheme on offer. The Environment Agency website gives more information about the directive.
Brita water filter cartridges
These can be recycled by returning via Freepost or by taking to one of the participating stores. Find out more on the Brita website
