Flats recycling service

The scheme has been set up for those who live in blocks of flats with more than 8 units.

If you live in a block of flats with fewer than 8 units you can recycle using the kerbside collection.

How to apply

  • Once the suitability of your block of flats has been agreed, we will deliver bins in accordance with your individual blocks needs.
  • The typical recycling facility consists of 7 wheeled bins for the recycling of paper, glass (green, brown and clear), cans, cardboard and plastic bottles.
  • Leaflets explaining the recycling in flats service will be delivered to all residents.

About the flats recycling service

We have expanded our recycling service to include even more multi-occupancy dwellings in the borough. This has been made possible by funding received from the London Recycling Fund.

Aims of the service

  1. To provide convenient, easy to use recycling facilities for people living in the multi-occupancy dwellings in the borough.
  2. To collect and recycle glass, paper, cans, cardboard and plastic bottles.
  3. To increase the rate of recycling achieved in the Borough.

Service characteristics

  1. The typical recycling facility consists of 7 wheeled bins for the recycling of paper, glass (green, brown and clear) cans, cardboard and plastic bottles.
  2. The bin lids will be locked to reduce contamination and vandalism. There are small apertures to insert the recyclable materials.
  3. The recycling service is free. There is no charge for supplying the bins, and the collection service is also free.
  4. The wheeled bins are usually placed in the vicinity of the normal domestic refuse bins (or in any other suitable location approved by the managing agent and/or residents).
  5. Collections for glass, paper and cans are carried out fortnightly and weekly for plastic bottles and cardboard (we will provide additional bins if the existing bins consistently become too full between collections).
  6. Food waste recycling collections are not available from flats or estates where there are 5 or more units. This is due to collection and storage difficulties but possible solutions are being investigated.
