Dangerous and poisonous waste
The Council does not provide a commercial hazardous waste collection service.
Some common examples of hazardous waste are:
- Clinical waste
- Lead batteries
- Fluorescent tubes
- Asbestos
- Chemicals or substances held in containers displaying the COSHH warning label
- Fridges / Freezers
- Waste engine oil
- TV and computer monitors
The collection and disposal of hazardous waste is tightly regulated by the Environment Agency. The requirement for this waste to be disposed of correctly is reflected in the severity of the penalties for not doing so – an unlimited fine and / or a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years.
All premises that produce more than 200kgs of Hazardous waste a year must be registered with the Environment Agency.
