Commercial waste and recycling enforcement
All commercial premises have a Duty of Care to manage and dispose of their waste, including any recycling, legally and responsibly.
- Our Street Scene Enforcement Officers carry out daily patrols in the Borough and will take enforcement action against commercial premises that do not manage their waste properly.
- Commercial premises must pay to dispose of their waste and keep a record of its disposal or transfer.
- Commercial waste or recycling should not be placed out for collection by the domestic waste collectors, as the waste will not be collected.
Enforcement action
If a commercial premise is found not to be managing their waste properly, our Street Scene Enforcement team will become involved. Our Street Scene Enforcement Team work together as much as possible with commercial premises to address their waste management difficulties. Commercial premises will usually receive advice and warnings from the enforcement team before more formal enforcement action is taken. Formal enforcement action may include the issuing of Fixed Penalty Notices, notices requiring a commercial premise to provide the Council with their Waste Transfer Notes, or legal proceedings in serious cases.
