Heathrow – we need protection, not expansion

Heathrow is owned and operated by BAA plc (formerly British Airports Authority). The company was privatised in 1997 and renamed as BAA. You can find out more about BAA position on noise by visiting the BAA website and search for ‘noise’.

The Council is not anti-Heathrow. It accepts that Heathrow plays a vital role in the west London economy. It is the single biggest source of jobs in that area.

There are residents of the Borough of Richmond who work at the airport or in some airport related way. Many residents enjoy easy access to Heathrow and being able to fly from there.

The ongoing issue for the council is how best to contain Heathrow’s relentless desire for growth and ensure that residents living under the flight path are best protected from the nuisance that goes with one of the world’s busiest airports.

Expansion of both day time and night time flights brings with it a stress and pressure on residents.
