Supplementary Planning Guidance on Redevelopment of Potentially Contaminated Sites

The Supplementary Planning Guidance on the Redevelopment of Potentially Contaminated Sites(pdf, 69KB) has been produced to outline the approach that the Council expects Developers to take when redeveloping potentially contaminated sites.

This document is intended to detail the recommended approach to gain full understanding of the site and soil contamination / groundwater regime in line with current Government guidance. Detailed within the document are the requirements from Desk Studies through Intrusive Site Investigation and Risk Assessment to Remediation and subsequent Validation. Also included are details of the regulatory, legal and technical requirements and websites where further information can be found.

The Special Projects Team aims to work closely with Developers at an early stage in order that the development progresses smoothly and that any environmental assessment carried out is of the required standard.

We will work in partnership with Developers to ensure that brownfield land is brought back into beneficial use in a sustainable manner, wherever possible encouraging that any remediation work required due to land contamination is carried out using sustainable methods.

If you are thinking of developing a site in the Borough and would like to find out how best to proceed or have already obtained planning permission with a Land Contamination condition attached please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss any work may be required.
