Analysis of deposits in Kew Gardens

The Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew noted that the glasshouses were subjected to oily deposits. The Royal Botanical Gardens were concerned about these deposits and expressed that a contributory factor was the emissions from the aircraft on the approach to Heathrow .

A survey was carried out by Warren Spring Laboratories in 1993 to ascertain the nature and potential source of the oily deposits. The objective was to identify traces of hydrocarbons characteristic of jet fuel in the deposits at Kew.

This report details the work carried out and presents and discusses the results in the light of other work on soiling of buildings by urban deposition. For a copy of the report, you can:
