Conservation Area Studies

The objective of a Conservation Area Study is to provide a clearly defined analysis of the character and appearance and special interest of a conservation area or group of conservation areas which is defensible on appeal, assists in development control decisions and identifies proposals for enhancement or preservation.

A Study is a background supporting document to the Appraisal Statements for each conservation area. Conservation Area Studies have been subject to public consultation before adoption by the Council. Over time they will be reviewed and combined with the Appraisal Statements to form one ‘Character Appraisal and Management Plan’ for each individual conservation area.

Please note

Not every Conservation Area has an accompanying study.

Some studies have accompanying separate guidance for shopfronts and/or properties covered by Article 4 Directions.
