Youth, get in the know

Richmond Youth Council

The Richmond Youth Council was established so that the young people of Richmond upon Thames could have a voice, which is a force that people listen to. The Youth Council has the power and opportunity to advocate on your behalf to influence the decisions that affect your lives.

The Youth Council meets on the last Wednesday of every month. The current young people representing you are:

  • Jem
  • Alexa
  • Jack
  • Hasib
  • Kallum
  • Rufus
  • George
  • Artur
  • Antonio
  • Livvy
  • Lewis

You do not have to have a role as such, you can come along and get involved as a member. To become a fully fledged member you have to attend three meetings, after you have attended three meetings you will be able to vote and stand for a role.

We hold training residentials throughout the year to train new recruits and provide support for action planning throughout the year.

We aim to provide a coherent, cohesive voice (basically clear) for Young People who live, work, play or are educated in the Richmond borough.

Young person’s testimonial

I started going to meetings when I was in Care

They started up a monthly meeting where young people in care could go to and have a chance to say what they felt about social services. I enjoyed and was then told about the Richmond Youth Forum I went to one of their meetings and then to their training residential and I really enjoyed the chance to have my say and knowing that I was there representing Young People in care which was a big responsibility but I found out that I liked getting others who might be shy views and being a voice for them. Now being voted in as the Deputy Member of Youth Parliament for Richmond has been a great achievement I am really enjoying the position.

Also being on the Youth Forum I get a chance to have my say and be heard by the people who make the decisions.

Although the Richmond Youth Forum happens monthly and is going well we are always looking for the opportunity to raise our profile as a group and to be taken seriously. If you would like more information please contact Kirsty on: 07903 811704.
