Admission criteria for community primary schools

Church schools have different criteria from those of community schools and you need to check with individual schools. Contact them direct to obtain a prospectus.

The current admission criteria for community schools are as follows (in a shortened version):

  1. Children with a statement of special educational need that specifies the school as the placement school.
  2. Children in public care and other children who are deemed by the Council's Fair Access Panel. to have a particular need that justifies priority.
  3. Children who will have siblings (by which is meant full, step-, half- and adopted siblings living in the same household) in attendance at the school, or at a linked primary school, at the point of admission.
  4. Children transferring to a junior school from a linked infant school, if applicable.
  5. Children living closest to the school. The basis on which this will be decided will be distance, judged by the shortest route by road and publicly maintained footpaths, accompanied as necessary.  Accessibility of private or public transport will not be considered.  All distances are measured using a computerised Geographical Information System (GIS).
