Who sits on the Governing Body?
The governing body is made up of:
- Parent governors (elected by parents of the school);
- Staff representatives (elected by school staff);
- The Headteacher;
- Local authority governors (appointed by the local authority);
- Community governors (members of the local community appointed by the governing body);
- For some schools, people appointed by the relevant religious body or foundation; and
- Up to two sponsor governors (appointed by the governing body).
The numbers in each category vary depending on the size of the school. Appointments are usually for four years.
