Holiday playschemes
What is a holiday playscheme?
Holiday playschemes are planned activities for children during school holidays. The schemes offer a wide variety of activities, with an emphasis on activities and play.
Are holiday playschemes registered?
Holiday playschemes have to be registered with Ofsted if:
The total care provided is for more than 2 hours in one day and more than 5 days a year. Download a copy of Surestart Out of school care, National Standards for under 8s day care and childminding.
Holiday playschemes do not have to be registered with Ofsted if they only provide care for children above the age of eight.
When do holiday playschemes run?
Some of the schemes only run for a short period, for one or two weeks and only a few hours a day, but there are many that will be able to provide full time cover during the school holidays.
Where are holiday playschemes located
Some activities are located in schools and on their grounds. A few of the playschemes that are based at schools are only available to children that attend the specific schools. If this is the case then it will be indicated on the list.
