Benefits of volunteering

Why volunteer?

  • It gives you the opportunity to get an insight into the Children's Care, Learning and Development and Playwork field.
  • It allows you to build up your experiences, skills and abilities.
  • It enables you to decide at what level you would like to initially and eventually work towards.
  • It assists you in deciding the path or route you may wish to take, for example, whether you would like to study towards a qualification.
  • You will be able to meet different people in the profession, and talk to them about their experiences.
  • It gives you a contact for a referee for future jobs.
  • It may lead to future employment.
  • You may build a network of friends who share the same interest as you.
  • You will learn more about the governments strategy on Children's Care, Learning and Development and future opportunities.

As well as contacting the Recruitment Officer in the Family Information Service who can provide a list of volunteering opportunities, you can also contact the local volunteer bureau.

If you are aged 16 to 25, you can contact Millennium Volunteers. They provide a nationally recognized award which encourages young people to get involved in volunteering opportunities in their local areas.
