Family learning target groups

The Adult and Community Learning (including Family Learning) Strategic Plan 2007/8-2009/10 identifies the priority groups for family learning as:

  • Ethnic minority families
  • Traveller families
  • Children with disabilities and/or learning difficulties and their families
  • Children and young people with mental health needs
  • Fathers
  • Young parents
  • Young carers
  • Families needing support to learn English as an additional language
  • Looked after children with their carers
  • Families living in disadvantaged areas

In addition to the specific groups mentioned above family learning also targets children and adults who have the lowest levels of achievement in numeracy and/or literacy and groups that suffer the highest levels of poverty, deprivation and social exclusion.
