Electoral registration

You can find out more about the last council local government elections (4 May 2006).

You can only vote if your name is on the current register of electors, and a revised version is published every year on or before 1 December, following the compulsory Annual Canvass of every household.

You can then add, delete and amend names throughout the year in monthly amendments from January to September by downloading and completing the rolling registration form on this page. If you are unable to print this form please contact the electoral registration office for one to be sent to you. Only one person can apply per form and you must sign your own form, someone else cannot do it for you. Statistics for monthly alterations to the register since publication are available on this site.

Who has your details?

There are two versions of the register: the edited version and the full version.

The Full Register

The Full Register lists everyone who is entitled to vote and it can only be used for electoral purposes, the prevention and detection of crime and checking your identity when you have applied for credit. It is a criminal offence for them to pass this information on to anyone else or to use it for any other purpose.

Edited Register

Under current legislation the Edited Register can be sold to anybody and used for any purpose such as direct marketing, but you are always given the choice not to appear on this when you register.

Direct mail

If you are concerned about direct or 'junk' mail sent to your home, contact the Mailing Preference Service to stop it.
