Review of polling districts and polling places
We regularly assess our Polling Stations for suitability and accessibility, and survey large numbers of electors at every election. The average satisfaction borough-wide has been approximately 95% since 2001.
In 2006 new regulations required all Local Authorities to review their polling districts and polling places by the end of 2007, and on a four yearly basis thereafter.
The review was based on the current number of electors and a key guideline is that each of the borough’s 53 polling districts should now contain approximately equal numbers of electors.
In April 2007 letters were sent to every household in the borough asking for comments on their current polling provisions or suggestions for alternatives. Electoral Services presented their suggestions for alterations, and these were considered by a cross party working group on 30th July. The resulting proposals were submitted to and adopted by the Council at it's meeting on 25th September 2007.
