Uplift Hampton North
Hampton North is one of five Uplift areas. A programme of activities has been developed following comments received through the All In One survey and Village Planning sessions.
A series of improvement works will take place to rejuvenate key areas, enhancing it for residents, businesses and visitors. The Hampton North Uplift Programme will be delivered in Waves.
Wave 1
A series of six concept ideas have been developed for the Wave One programme.
These include:
1. Community Multi Use Games Area
The existing games area at the White House Community Centre is tired and in need of repair. A replacement Multi Use Games Area for sports activities in the district centre could re-provide this facility.
2. Percy Road and Broad Lane improvements
The aims of this concept include enhancing the street scene, creating a more vibrant area for local businesses and the removal of street clutter. Improvements may consist of soft landscaping, a shared surface, removal of railings, shop front improvements, street lighting, extension to the pavement, new paving, traffic calming measures and new street furniture.
3. White House Community Centre - landscaping
Landscaping improvements for the land surrounding the White House Community Centre to enhance the position and visibility of the centre, and may include planting and the removal of hedging.
4. Hampton Youth Project - mural
A project to continue and extend the wall mural at the front of the Hampton Youth Centre, on the upper part of the building.
5. Oak Avenue Nature Reserve and Hampton Common
Extension of footpath network in Hampton Common in order to improve accessibility for all park users through installing a new path from the play area to Oak Avenue entrance, creating a green link to the Oak Avenue Nature Reserve and with the aim of linking up to Hatherop Park. The entrance to Oak Avenue Nature Reserve will also be opened up to improve access and make it more welcoming.
6. Old White House
The Old White House is structurally unsound and preparation for the removal of this building is being considered as the most feasible option. This will enable the implementation of the Wave 2 Master Plan to transform the town centre into a lively and thriving area.
Wave 2
Master Plan
The drawing up of a planning brief and master plan will create a village square – Hampton Square - at the heart of the town centre, creating a vibrant area for residents and businesses to enjoy. It is hoped that such investment will encourage new services to open an outlet in the square, including a bank and post office.
