Road closure and parking information

The events we are hosting locally will have an impact on roads and parking in certain key areas of the borough. Specifically, these are:

East Sheen, Richmond, Twickenham, Teddington, Hampton Court and Hampton Wick.

To enable the Olympic organisers to set up the event and make sure the route is secure and safe for both athletes and spectators, it is necessary to close roads and suspend parking before each event. Other preparations will include; installing crowd control barriers, removing traffic islands, clearing the route of debri, litter and parked vehicles as well as putting up Olympic branding.

After each event has finished, roads will remain closed for some time to ensure they are safe and secure for public use. Barriers and banners will need to be removed, traffic islands and road signs reinstated, roads thoroughly cleaned, crowds dispersed, security checks completed and stewards stood down before roads can be re-opened safely.

Roads will be re-opened in stages, beginning with the most important roads. We expect all roads to be fully open by late evening on each event day. We will of course work hard to re-open them as soon as possible and minimise the impact, but factors such as the size of crowds, security needs and the speed of riders will all play a part in determining re-opening times.

A summary of closures and parking suspensions is shown below and you can view a combined route map(pdf, 1274KB) of the areas affected.

Transport for London have also issued a leaflet which explains the impact of the road closures(pdf, 1675KB).
