Children and young people

Children and young people were at the heart of the London 2012 Bid for the Games.

Lord Coe promised "To reach all young people around the world and connect them to the inspirational power of sport".

There are lots of exciting and inspiring 2012 projects for children and young people to get involved in, from participating in sports or volunteering in the Olympic Park to the exchange of cultural knowledge with other competing countries.

Richmond Olympic Committee

Through the School Sport Partnership, a Richmond Olympic Committee has been created which aims to engage every single student in some kind of Olympic related project and activity in the build up to the 2012 games.

This is a student led project that brings together two or three Olympic Ambassadors (students) from each of the Borough's secondary schools. The goal of the committee is to raise awareness and promote London 2012, integrate the Olympic Values into student life and engage all students in Olympic activity.

Get Set

Get Set is the Olympic education programme for London 2012. Schools that apply and are accepted in to the Network become affiliated schools to the London 2012 education programme.

Get Set Network schools are given an allocation of tickets for students (1 out of 8 students). Network schools can access lots of great online resources, they receive a plaque from the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), and get use of the very exclusive Olympic education logo, which includes the Olympic rings. Schools also receive access to exclusive opportunities in the build up to the games. For instance, LOCOG only uses Get-Set Network schools for events involving school children.

Through the Get-Set programme, some of our schools have visited the Olympic site and some of our Olympic Ambassadors have met Lord Seb Coe. Read more about students meeting Lord Coe(pdf, 216KB), or the visit to the Olympic site(pdf, 145KB).
