Richmond Theatre 110th anniversary project

Richmond Theatre 110 is a community history project that invites local people to take the lead in telling to story of the Theatre since it opened its doors in 1899. The project was conceived in consultation with local community groups and heritage organisations and is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Peter Beckwith Harrow Trust and Richmond Theatre Trust.

A group of fifteen local people who are not currently in employment will be trained as community curators and mount an exhibition about the history of Theatre that will go on show at the Museum of Richmond and other key cultural venues.

Alongside this, a group of young people will be working with a playwright to create a new play based on people’s memories of the Theatre. The anniversary year will come to an end with the launch of the exhibition and a celebratory reading of the new play, staged by the young people and a professional production team on the main stage at Richmond Theatre.
