Finance and Corporate Services
First of all a warm welcome to all users and visitors to the Finance and Corporate Services' webpages. The Department in its current form was established in March 1999. All Finance functions have been brought together to form the new Department under the Director of Finance and includes the sections and functions outlined on the Sections within Finance and Corporate Services page.
The Department operates at the very core of the Council's operations. The continued financial health of the authority is vital to the provision of all its services and the range and diversity of our activities can be seen from the summary below.
In addition to delivering the vital day to day requirements such as accounting, auditing, payroll and payments, the Department collects Council Tax and handles Housing and Council Tax benefit for Borough residents. It also specialises in more discrete services such as insurance, debt management and cash flow, banking arrangements and management of the Council's pension fund.
We provide financial services and advice to cater for the needs of the Council and all its component parts, e.g. Members, departments, service organisation including schools with delegated responsibilities, and the public. Our aim is to be as helpful and open in our dealings as possible. The Department exists to provide constructive support to all areas of the Council to maximise service delivery within the resources available to the authority. It also aims to deliver its direct services to the public in the most efficient, caring and cost effective way possible.
