Joint Area Review

What is the Joint Area Review (JAR)?

The Joint Area Review, or JAR, is a single coordinated inspection of all publicly funded services for all children and young people within a local area. It replaces the separate inspections of local education authorities, social services, connexions and provision for 14-19 year olds.

When did it take place?

The inspectors visted Richmond upon Thames on two occasions. The first visit took place between 12 to 20 April 2007. During this first week the inspectors reviewed our policies and procedures.

The inspectors returned between 8 and 18 May during which time they visited some of the services and facilities for children, young people and families around the borough.

A more detailed timetable of events can be found on the JAR key documents page.

What was the result?

Services for Children and Young people in Richmond upon Thames were rated as outstanding. The report gave an overall grade 4 for the work of the Council and it’s partners in delivering services for children, young people and their families. This is the highest grade that can be achieved.
