Support your local lollipop person

Parents and school children are being urged to ‘support your lollipop person’, as the borough makes a bid to have one of its lollipop men or women recognised as the nation’s best.

Nominations for the nationwide competition run until the 30 October, with prizes being awarded to the winner and their school.

Cllr Malcolm Eady, Cabinet Member for Children’s Se

rvices and Education on Richmond Council, said:

“There is only a short time left until the competition ends, so I’m calling on you to get voting and support your lollipop person.

“We have eight staff in the borough and they all do a fantastic job, not only helping children cross the road safely but encouraging drivers to slow down on roads around schools. I encourage you to lend them your support, it could bring prizes for schools too.”

The Lollipop Person of the Year is a national campaign run by Kwik Fit Insurance. The winner will receive a free holiday; their schools will receive a range of prizes including £3,000 to spend on school equipment. There will also be 12 regional winners from across the UK who will also get £500 worth of holiday vouchers and each of the 12 schools will be awarded with £100 worth of book tokens.

Nominations will be taken until Friday 30 October 2009. More information and entry details can be found at www.bestlollipop.co.uk
