Young people wanting to find out more about politics, local government and the community are being invited to quiz a panel of VIPs at a one-off Question Time-inspired event on 16 October.
The afternoon will be chaired by the Deputy Youth Parliament Member, Cynthia Adebiyi-Yekinni, with the panel including Cllr Serge Lourie, Cllr Nicholas True, David Ansell, Principal of Richmond College, and a player from Harlequins Rugby Club.
Those attending will be able to ask the panel questions about issues in the community, such as community safety, education and sport.
The event is part of Richmond Council’s celebration of Local Democracy Week (12-16 October), a national campaign that aims to encourage young people to get involved in politics.
Cllr Lourie, Leader of Richmond Council, said:
“We already have a hugely active youth forum and have been heavily involved in the Youth Parliament, so we know our young people have a keen interest in debating local issues.
“In previous years we’ve held workshops and speed-dating styled question and answer sessions, and this is another innovative idea to get more people involved. I’m expecting it to be quite lively, but a lot of fun too. I know there are some spaces left so if there are any aspiring David Dimbley’s out there, I encourage you to get in touch!”
The event is being held from 1pm-3.30pm in York House, Twickenham. For more information, or to book a place, contact Ellie Ridgeway on 020 8487 5159.
