The centerpiece of the borough’s Older People’s Week celebrations saw over 170 people attend an information fair, complete with ‘paint to music’ sessions, in Twickenham on Tuesday, 6 October.
Guest of honour was 104 year old Grace Mulford, who was presented with flowers from the Mayor, Cllr Celia Hodges.
Run by Richmond Council, in partnership with Age Concern Richmond and the Pension’s Service, the event featured over 30 local organisations offering advice and activities for older residents.
It is part of a week of activities featuring everything from line dancing to yoga, health walks to coffee mornings, at venues across the borough.
Cllr Carr, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing on Richmond Council, said:
“We’re delighted the fair was so well attended. I hope people got some ideas about things to do in the borough, as well as taking the chance to socialise and try the art classes.
“We aim to help older people live active, healthy and safe lives, and I would encourage anybody looking for help or advice to get in touch with us, or one of the many local organisations that provide support.”
The fair also saw the launch of the Council’s ‘Lifelong Opportunities – Aging well in Richmond upon Thames’, which sets out plans to improve the quality of life for older people in the borough, such as making sure people feel safe, healthy and have access to quality services.
The week is run to mark Older People’s Day (1 October) an annual, nationwide celebration of older people’s contribution to the community.
