Financial help for keeping warm this winter
People are being advised to avoid spiraling heating costs and cold weather induced illnesses this winter, by taking advantage of a number of discounted home heating schemes that are available.
Richmond Council is referring residents to the range of local and government run offers, including central heating, insulation and draft-proofing improvements, many of which are free to older people or those with medical conditions.
Cllr Denise Carr, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing on Richmond Council, said:
“During the winter months people become more susceptible to illness, with older residents and people with health issues particularly at risk. These risks can be reduced if your home is properly heated. There are a number of schemes designed to help with this, and they could help you save money too.
“Some of the schemes are means tested and have waiting lists, and it can take a period of time from your first enquiry to the work being carried out and completed, so our message is to prepare early.
“I would also encourage you to look out for friends, family and neighbours during the winter and make sure they have enough warm clothes, are staying active and eat and drink properly, particularly if they are older or vulnerable.”
