A week of culture is planned at Heathfield Children’s Centre, where visitors can test out bollywood dancing, costume making and learn to drum.
The week has been organised to celebrate Family Learning Festival which runs from Monday 26 October, and aims to encourage families to try new activities together and let them experience the wide range of types of advice, support and fun available.
Cllr Liz Jaeger, Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure, said: “Our children’s centres do a great job in helping families to enjoy themselves together and to learn about different cultures and ideas.
“This is a very busy programme of events and I’m sure there will be something that will interest everyone, and when you visit, it’s more than likely that you’ll find out about the many other services offered at the centre, like the Play Sessions, Parent Support Advice or the Health visiting team amongst other activities.”
Events running during the week include:
Bollywood dancing, Henna and Jewellery Making
A Carnival Costume Making Workshop
The Healthy Cooks Cultural Food Taster
African Drumming Workshop
Spanish Taster Lesson
All of these activities are free for families and children up the age of 8. The sessions are planned to be inclusive for any age group and there is a wide range of activities that will suit children from 0 to 8.
The borough’s four children’s centres exist to support families with Children under five to empower and offer experience and skills to be able to make the most of family life. The children’s centres work in partnership with health services, job centre plus, police and local voluntary sector services.
