Kick off the summer with the Power Employment flower show

Power Employment, a service run by Richmond Council to find employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities, is inviting people to visit its plant sale at The Business Centre, Twickenham on Wednesday, 13 May (10am-3pm).

The event will see a huge variety of plants, flowers and hanging baskets on display, all of which have been grown by members of the Garden Gang, a work experience project specialising in gardening and landscaping skills.

Visitors will also be able to get gardening advice and enjoy a range of refreshments.

Cathy Kerr, Director of Adult and Community Services on Richmond Council, said:

“The Garden Gang is well known by local people and has done a lot of work on community and private projects around the borough in recent years. They have also transformed an area of The Business Centre into a flourishing nursery and this is an excellent opportunity for people to see the work they have done.

“It promises to be excellent event, the perfect way to kick off the summer and I encourage people to go along.”

The Garden Gang is part of Richmond Council’s Power Employment service which finds employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities living in the borough.

It offers work experience in horticultural skills, gardening maintenance and landscaping. With the skills gained candidates are then helped to find full time employment.

The Garden Gang was relocated to Business Centre (formerly known as the Twining Centre) in 2007, along with the Recycle and Café Sunshine projects, where they have cultivated an expansive nursery and renovated a large disused greenhouse with the help of a grant from The Hampton Fuel Allotment Charity.
