Joe Bateson, 16, has won a lap top computer after his design was chosen for the new youth pages on the Richmond Council website.
His design was chosen by a panel of young people, following a competition run by the Council at the start of the year. The new pages will be launched in the autumn.
Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure on Richmond Council, Liz Jaeger, said:
“We had a very high standard of entries, but Joe’s was outstanding and well worthy of the first prize.
“We are keen to get more young people using the services on offer in the borough. To succeed in this aim, it is vital that information about these services is presented in a way that interests young people. This competition has helped us achieve this, with young people involved in every stage, from the designs to the judging, something that will be apparent when the new pages go online.
”I’d like to thank Gary Latchman and Alison Walsh from the Council’s information technology provider, Serco, for donating the lap top and coming to meet Joe.”
Commenting on his design, Joe said;
"I wanted the design of the website to be more colourful and exciting, so I used high contrast colours and dynamic designs. I thought this would be more appealing to young people than a page of information."
The laptop has been donated by the Council’s information technology provider, Serco.
