Take part in your own road race
Local residents will have a chance to follow the path left by Olympic cyclists on 5 and 11 August in a specially organised Sky Ride.
The Gold Medal ride will cover the Richmond section of the route. Featuring some of the best sights in the borough the ride will begin in Richmond Park, pass over Richmond Bridge, through Twickenham and past Hampton Court Park.
Cllr Harborne, Champion of Cycling in the borough, said
“Were you inspired to get on your bike by the awesome Olympic Team GB Road Racers and Silver Medal winner, Lizzie Armitstead? What better way to get into the Olympic spirit than give Richmond's Olympic Route a go with this fantastic Sky Ride. Whether you’re a beginner or a keen cyclist, you’ll be led by fully trained ride leaders who give you tips on how to improve your cycling, whatever your age or ability.
“We have a few remaining Sky Rides so I encourage everyone to dust off your bike and give it a go before it’s too late.”
Sky Ride Local is a series of small, informal bike rides coordinated by British Cycling and Richmond Council. The free group rides are led by British Cycling trained ride leaders, who guide participants along the route, and provide tips and advice on cycle safety and skills.
