Young people needed for youth magazine

Young journalists and photographers – your borough needs you! People aged 11 to 19 are being encouraged to sign up to the editorial team for the borough’s youth magazine Outskirts.

Those selected will help produce articles, reviews and pictures about the issues that matter to local young people, for the next edition of the magazine, due out in the autumn.

Cllr Liz Jaeger, Cabinet Member for Youth, Culture and Leisure, on Richmond Council, said:

“This is great opportunity for young people to develop their skills, particularly if they are interested in a career in the media.

“We launched Outskirts last September and the four editions produced so far have been excellent quality. However, with many of the team heading off to university we are looking for some new contributors.

“We want our youth services to be the best in the country. To do this we have to work with young people and enable them to have a say on issues that affect them. Outskirts is one of the best chances to do this. We are one of the few boroughs who have an editorial team made up entirely of young people, although they do get guidance from the council’s youth support team. I hope anyone interested gets in touch.”

There are four editions of the magazine published each year, which are delivered to every home and school in the borough.

Anyone who wants to join the team has to submit an application form and then go through an interview process.

To help the Outskirts Editorial Team make sure the magazine provides you with the information you want about the area, in a way that you want to receive it, they are asking people to take part in a survey.

All entries received by the 30 July 2009 will be entered into a prize draw to win an iPod.
