Accountancy firm PricewaterhouseCoopers have been selected by Richmond Council to carry out a complete review of the authority’s operations as it works to save £14million in the face of the recession.
The council, in South West London, chose PwC to carry out the review following a competitive tendering process earlier this year. The review will encompass all the council’s activities to make sure residents are at the main focus in how we provide services
The council has brought in consultants to ensure its practises are independently reviewed. It is confident that using a tried and trusted methodology will lead to robust and quantified outcomes from the review.,
Cllr Stephen Knight, Richmond Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “We expect PwC’s review will help us to make this an even more efficient organisation, which can continue to provide first rate services for residents.
“We are already one of the lowest cost per head authorities in the country, with performance judged as four star and improving strongly with a four star rating for Value for Money. This means that our challenge to find further efficiencies is even harder. We are determined to keep as much funding as possible targeted at front line services.”
PricewaterhouseCoopers will talk to staff from across the Council and employees are also being recruited to interview colleagues as part of the data gathering process.
The role of the consultants will be to take a whole organisation view of processes, systems and structure. Part of the reason in selecting PwC was to build on work they have undertaken in other organisations. They will be expected to identify potential changes and efficiencies to ensure Richmond Council continues to achieve high performance and meet its challenging savings targets.
