Children and their families in Hampton are invited to a family open day at the new Tangley Park Family Centre, following an £80,000 refurbishment.
The centre will be officially opened in January, with a launch event in March, but before then, local families are invited to come and look around at the new facilities, meet staff and learn what activities will be on offer in the New Year.
The centre will run a rolling timetable of different activities to support local families. For example, these will include support groups for dads, a parent’s forum, ‘Bumps and Babies’ post-natal and ante-natal sessions, baby massage, parenting courses, counselling, baby yoga and information and guidance about childcare.
The family open day will give families a snapshot of these facilities and a chance to meet the team.
Cllr Christine Percival, Richmond Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Youth and Children’s Services, said: “This Family Centre will be an asset for the local community and something that this part of the borough has needed for several years. Despite the decision made by the Government last year that it would cut funding for both this centre and the Croft Centre, I am very pleased that we found the money to make this investment in the future of our children – as indeed we did for the Croft Centre.
“Services that will be provided include pre-natal consultation, health visitors, occupational and speech therapy, parenting classes, and help for families with relationship issues.
“The centre will also be used to help people who have been victims of domestic violence and will host sessions helping people to get back in to work.
“The doors won’t officially open until the New Year, but we would like to invite local families in before then to have a look around.”
The Family Open Day is on Monday 12 December from 10am-4pm.
